Piston

Piston was a big goofball that came to us from Michigan along with Guru, Axel, Trapper, Maggie, and Duke. He was one of our biggest dogs, and like all the other big guys, he was a super silly and friendly. He was always in the mood to play and jump around, especially outside where he hangs out with Tater and Totter. Piston was also doing pretty well on the treadmill!

Before joining the Vaika team, Piston was a mid distance sled dog. He and his team competed in races that spanned between 40 and 300 miles! For training they usually did 8 to 10 mile runs. Piston actually competed in the Iditarod two years before moving to Cornell, which is a race held in Alaska that spans over 1,000 miles!

Piston suffered from Addison's disease and severe thyroiditis. We lost him in December 2019. Our team will miss Piston and can only hope that his last months spent with us were happy.
